Baratza Encore Grind Settings

The Baratza Encore grind settings can be adjusted to grind coffee between 250 and 1200 microns, covering a wide range of brewing methods except Turkish coffee (ibrik or cezve), which requires between 40 to 220 microns. In this model you can adjust grind settings from 1 (very fine) to 40 (very coarse).

What is this information based on?

The information presented on coffee grinder settings is based on a comprehensive and systematic approach to ensure reliability and accuracy. I have carefully compiled data from a large number of online coffee communities, forums and user reviews. From where coffee drinkers share their first-hand experiences with different grind settings. I am also cross-referencing these community-sourced insights with official grind size recommendations provided by the grinder manufacturers themselves. By analyzing and comparing the most frequently recommended settings from a wide range of sources, I am able to identify the most effective and widely accepted grind ranges. This method guarantees that the recommendations are not only based on real-world use, but also reflect a consensus among experts and everyday users.

Why Baratza Encore is not suitable for espresso?

A well-ground coffee should have consistent particle sizes. Some coffee grinders give the most consistent results in a certain micron range. As you get closer to a very fine grind or a very coarse grind, inconsistency can increase. Here, Baratza Encore has an ideal design for more medium to coarse shots. Due to this feature, it does not have the features that espresso lovers are looking for and is not preferred for espresso.

Baratza, which realized this, recently launched the Encore ESP model on the market. If you are interested in finer grinds, I strongly recommend this model, which can grind coffee for espresso very consistently.

Why Baratza Encore is not suitable for Turkish coffee?

While the Baratza Encore only has a grinding capability between 250 to 1200 microns, Turkish coffee (also called ibrik or cezve) is usually brewed between 40 and 220 microns. Even if you push the boundaries of Turkish coffee and brew it in the coarsest form, a 250 micron grind will be even coarser than the coarsest Turkish coffee size of 220.

Since the Encore ESP model can also go down to the finest 230 microns, I would suggest looking at other models for Turkish coffee, as opposed to recommending this model for espresso.

Buy Baratza Encore on Amazon

Despite its drawbacks over the ESP model, the Encore remains the best entry-level electric coffee grinder.
